FAQ’s – Tennis Shoes

  • There are several factors to consider when choosing your tennis shoes, but the most important ones are the amount of time you will use them and the surface on which you will play. A very common mistake is to invest little in shoes when you will be using them for at least 3 matches per week, which already constitutes intensive use and clearly demands better materials, technologies, and outsoles. If you invest more than necessary at first, it’s not a problem — the lifespan of your shoes will be longer.

In the case of tennis (and padel) shoes, it is recommended to leave about half a centimeter of space from the toes to the shoe’s toe box. The reason is that being a sport involving sliding not only laterally but also forward, you’ll damage your toenails if the shoes are too tight, because throughout the match or training session your toes will be hitting the front interior. TIP TO GET IT RIGHT… When trying on the shoe, push your foot forward as much as possible, and then with the foot fully flat on the ground you should be able to slide your index finger behind the heel.

We recommend checking the size guides you find in our product pages and verifying measurements in centimeters or JPN size. It’s very important that your foot doesn’t slide inside the shoe; also, you’ll notice that a shoe that leaves free space at the toe box fits your foot perfectly—manufacturers are not foolish.

Some claim there are no differences because women have been involved in the sport for many years and tend to have wider feet, but despite that, the shoe lasts remain different. Evidently, a women’s size 41 is not the same as a men’s 41. Women’s models are designed taking into account the specific characteristics of female players — both the shape of the foot and their physique. Women usually weigh less than men and, although they may be just as aggressive in their game and movements, their shoes endure less stress. We recommend that each gender wear footwear designed specifically for them.

As for women’s and junior shoes, there are also differences, but in this case, they are compatible. For example, a junior player with a high level of play but still a child’s foot can (and should) invest a bit more and move up to high-end junior models or women’s models built for adults. This way, the footwear will better support their health and improve their game.

  • Cushioning: refers to the shoe’s capacity to absorb impacts, reduce strain on joints (knees, hips), and provide comfort during movement. The “midsole” materials are designed to dissipate impact energy and return part of it as propulsion.
  • Stability: is the control of lateral or rotational foot movement, keeping it firm during changes of direction, preventing unwanted twists, and maintaining a secure base. It includes lateral reinforcements, a rigid chassis, denser zones, or structures that limit excessive foot displacement.

In summary: cushioning protects against vertical impact; stability controls lateral foot movement.

The goal is to find a balance: footwear with good cushioning but without compromising the stability necessary for your movements.
