HOW TO CHOOSE MY TENNIS RACQUET?

We all face this question, both when we are going to start playing tennis and when it is time to change our racket, either because it has fallen short or because our tennis has improved significantly .

The first thing you have to analyze is how many times a week you practice tennis and if you are going to start or have been practicing it for a while, this is vital since it will allow us to segment the rackets and focus only on those that are suitable for our purpose.

Depending on your personal characteristics, if you are a man or woman, height, body mass, physical condition, you will have to select a heavier or lighter racket.

The rackets are segmented into beginner rackets, intermediate rackets, and intermediate/advanced rackets, and there is also a price range for each segment. Once we are clear about our level, we have to determine what weight range is recommended since a player who is starting out is not the same as one who already has experience.

Tennis rackets for beginners

They are usually handled in weights between 255 and 280 grams, they are mainly made with graphite and other types of fibers or aluminum, the function of these rackets is for the player to learn from easy and fun way. They are rackets with head sizes between 100 inches (645 cm²) and 105 inches (660 cm²), these sizes will provide us with a wide sweet spot and a racket that is more tolerant of errors. They are rackets made of graphite, an intermediate player uses weights between 270 grams and 300 grams and a head size between 100 and 102 inches.

The weight ranges between 280 grams and 315 grams in weight, normally rackets that exceed 315 grams in weight are usually used by professionals and the head sizes currently range between 100 inches and 97 inches, there are still some exceptions with a 95-inch head, but due to the tennis practiced today, brands have been abandoning them.

Because they have been training for years and their learning curve is high which means they hit harder, firmer and most will even compete. WHAT GRIST SIZE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

The size of the hand is usually proportional to our height, the most used sizes in adults are L1, L2, L3 and L4. We can take as reference these equivalences that we propose as a guide.

• L1 for height from 145 cm to 165 cm
• L2 for height from 165 cm to 180 cm
• L3 and L4 for height from 180 cm to 200 cm or more

You can still measure the most suitable size for you in the following way, the rule says that by holding the handle firmly, the index finger of the opposite hand must enter the excess space between the tip of the fingers and the heel of the hand that holds the handle. When doing this check, we must take into account that we usually place an overgrip on the handle and this thickens the handle a little more.
